FIA HTP Inspections

Obtaining an HTP opens the door to the most prestigious historic events worldwide. A HTP is an essential sporting document, and its purpose is to allow a car to take part in these historic events worldwide. It is important to note that an HTP does not verify the authenticity and/or provenance of a car. The HTP proves upon approval from the FIA the car meets and complies with the technical requirements of FIA Appendix K ensuring the car is authentic to the year of specification and can therefore compete with other cars of the same origin fairly.

Your car must match a period photo of the same year of specification, make and model of a car competing in a period international event. The car must match physically every aspect of the car in the photo. Gurneys, ducts, louvres, splitters, dampers, ignition systems, fuel injection systems, ECUs, etc…must have been available and used in period. It is not allowed to combine features from different periods.

Please check your ROPS as FIA Appendix K safety regulations override the period regulations.

The timeline from inspection to approval of your car from the FIA varies depending on feedback received from the FIA. Some cars can be approved in as little as two weeks provided there are no issues to be resolved to meet the FIA standards. There is no priority process available at this time.

Newly issued HTPs have a valid life of 10 years from the year of issue. Upon expiration the HTP will need to be renewed.

Owner Brooks Thomas of Thomas Historics is recommended by ACCUS to inspect HTPs in the United States on behalf of the FIA. Cars based in the United States are to have HTPs submitted to ACCUS who represents the United States on behalf of the FIA.

Application Process:

1. Download our inspection request form, fill it out and submit it to us. Click here to download our request form.

2. Once your inspection request is received, we will contact you to arrange a mutual date of inspection and to secure payment of inspection (inspection fees are due in advance). Upon payment, you will receive confirmation of your inspection date and time.

3. On inspection day the car must be on a car lift or four jackstands for inspectors’ safety. The car owner and/or mechanic with direct knowledge of the car must be present. Exterior pictures are required during inspection which will require a clutter-free background.

4. After inspection, the inspector will submit the completed Application, Historic Technical Passport Inspection report, and/or any period evidence necessary for processing to ACCUS. They will then contact you to proceed towards the next steps of submission to the FIA.

5. Once the FIA is satisfied that the application meets the required criteria will the FIA issue the identity number for your car. All feedback will be referred to you through your inspector.

Once the car has been approved, the FIA will issue the car its identity number. ACCUS will then send you a certified copy of the final HTP, this copy should always be kept with the car. This is your documentation to present at scrutineering.

A numbered barcoded sticker will be sent to you with your certified copy of the final HTP. This sticker will need to be placed on the car in accordance with the FIA requirements.

A numbered barcoded sticker will be affixed to the car once approved by the FIA. This is intended to assist the scrutineering process. The sticker will be affixed to the car in accordance with FIA requirements.

We hope that you have found the above helpful, but should you have any questions on any aspect of the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
